Overview

While searching through M.A.I.L. for new weaves to make, I found the historic Dragonscale weave. This member of the European and Helm families is essentially two sheets of European 4-in-1 woven through each other. If you wish to make this yourself, I recommend this tutorial by Phong.

Materials

For the sample piece showcased in this post, I used two sizes of rings made from 16 SWG Bright Aluminum wire. The larger rings, which I made myself, have an ID of 10mm for an AR of 6.15. The smaller rings have an ID of .25in for an AR of 4, purchased from The Ring Lord.

Notes

The Dragonscale weave is somewhat complex to understand; however, it is relatively easy to create once you grasp the concept. To create the weave properly, ensure that all the small rings maintain a consistent lean. Visually, the weave is stunning, though the ends can be a bit loose. As a sheet weave, it can function as fabric, though it is less flexible than typical textiles. However, it remains flexible enough for larger projects. Dragonscale uses a lot of rings since it weaves two European 4-in-1 patterns through each other. While it may be challenging to learn and resource-intensive, its aesthetic appeal and versatility make it a worthwhile weave to master.
