American Wire Gauge

American Wire Gauge(AWG) is a wire gauge system that assigns a number to a specified thickness (Wire Diameter) of wire with a thicker wire having a smaller gauge. You can read more about it here.
Aspect Ratio

The Aspect Ratio(AR) is how large a ring is (relative to its wire thickness), where a higher AR means a larger ring. The formula to calculate it is Inner Diameter divided by Wire Diameter.
Chain

In chainmail, a chain is a weave that is infinitely repeatable in one direction.

In chainmail, an eye is the area of overlap of the interiors of two or more rings. Typically, when adding rings in relation to an eye, you either add ring(s) around the eye, through the eye or both.
Family

Weave families are groups of weaves sharing a set of defining characteristics.
Inner Diameter

The Inner Diameter(ID) of a ring is the diameter of the circle formed by the inside edge of a ring.
Kinged

In chainmail a 'Kinged' weave is a version of a weave where the rings are doubled up, with one ring passing through the eye of the other. This can be done to add strength or to change the appearance of the weave. You can take a looked at 'Kinged' weaves here.
Mandrel

A rod that you wrap wire around to form coils to cut into rings. You can use a wooden dowel however, using a strong material is beneficial as it will keep a more consistent size.
Mandrel Diameter

The Mandrel Diameter(MD) of a ring is the diameter of the mandrel on which the ring was wound. This approximates the true Inner Diameter of the ring; however, due to springback, it is not the same.
Sheet

In chainmail, a sheet is a weave that is infinitely repeatable in two directions that are perpendicular to each other.
Solid

In chainmail, a solid is a weave that is infinitely repeatable in three directions that are all perpendicular to each other.
Springback

Springback is when the wire coiled around a mandrel expands after it is no longer under tension. This makes the rings slightly larger than the mandrel they were wound on.
Standard Wire Gauge

Standard Wire Gauge(SWG) is a wire gauge system that assigns a number to a specified thickness (Wire Diameter) of wire with a thicker wire having a smaller gauge. You can read more about it here.
Unit

In chainmail, a unit is a weave that is not infinitely repeatable in any direction, leaving you with a single item of a fixed size.

In chainmail, a weave is an infinitely repeating pattern and unique of rings, where each ring meaningfully contributes such that removing one ring drastically changes its characteristics.
Wire Diameter

The Wire Diameter(WD) of a ring is the distance from the inner edge of the ring to the closest point on the outer edge of the ring.
